    • Position Summary
    • Full-time position available on or after July 3, 2023 in Human Resources/Payroll.



      Under immediate day-to-day direction by the Director of Payroll Operations, this position will process the payroll and personnel transactions including, but not limited to, special consultants, extension pay for campus departments and emergency and hourly intermittent employees, etc. In addition, the incumbent will provide back up and assistance to other payroll technicians and the director as needed.

    • Job Duties
    • Duties include but are not limited to:
      • Initiate, process and complete payroll transactions relating to: hourly-intermittent employees, student employees, special consultants, extension and special session faculty.
      • Process adjustments to employee pay for garnishments, judgements, dock, accounts receivable, retroactive salary or time base changes for employee types listed.
      • Run daily reports for issued warrants; send electronic files from PeopleSoft/CMS to the State Controller's Office (SCO), and key hardcopy timesheets as needed.
      • Assist student employees and hourly employees with their online self-service time reporting.
      • Select, interpret and apply appropriate procedures, rules and policies based on a familiarity with multiple manuals: Payroll Procedures Manual (SCO), CSU PIMS Manual, CLAS Manual, Collective Bargaining Agreements, State Controller’s Payroll, Personnel, and Leave Accounting Letters, CSU Technical Letters, State Administrative and Educational Codes, and applicable state and federal laws.
      • Monitor hourly exceptions and errors in the self-service timesheets.
      • Provide assistance to payroll director on PeopleSoft/CMS related tasks in support of month end processing, including absence management, closing calendars and initiating processing.
      • Perform adjustments in absence management for hourly employee separations.
      • Perform simple analysis and research on transactions as directed by payroll director.
      • Provide PIMS address updates from CMS self-service query.
      • Assist other payroll technicians with regular payroll processing and provide backup assistance as needed.
      • Process salary advances for delay in pay, pay requests or transfers, pay adjustments, and other miscellaneous payroll transaction forms.
      • Other duties as assigned.
    • Minimum Qualifications
    • Education:  Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities.

      Experience:  Equivalent to one year of general administrative experience in payroll and human resources recordkeeping and data entry which has provided the above knowledge and abilities.

    • Preferred Qualifications

      • High school diploma or GED.
      • Familiarity with Microsoft Office products, PeopleSoft (e.g. Human Resources, Finance, Time & Labor, and Absence Management modules).
      • Familiar with payroll and personnel procedures within the CSU or another public or state agency.
    • Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

      • Working knowledge of general office methods, practices and procedures.
      • Ability to acquire working knowledge of, and independently select and apply, CSU policies, procedures, programs, guidelines, applicable state and federal laws, educational codes, and collective bargaining agreements.
      • Ability to, or acquire the skill to, use web browsers, electronic calendaring programs, ERP/HRIS, and data management systems.
      • Ability to audit and reconcile data; interpret and apply written rules and regulations;
      • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others;
      • Ability to exercise tact, courtesy and good judgment in responding to others;
      • Ability to use current computer word processing and spreadsheet software programs;
      • Ability to perform mathematical calculations; accurately enter data;
      • Ability to follow oral and written instructions;
      • Ability to communicate effectively with others;
      • Ability to read and write at a level appropriate to the position.
    • Physical Requirements

    • Salary Range
    • Anticipated salary will be $3,338 – $3,839 per month plus excellent paid benefits. Salary will depend on the qualifications of the successful finalist. (Full Payroll Technician I range: $3,338 - $5,407 per month)
