ASSISTANT DIRECTOR, IT SECURITY AND COMPLIANCE

The Position: In accordance with CSU and University policies and procedures, the incumbent is responsible for developing and administering University policy related to information technology security, which includes protecting student, faculty, and staff data and information, technology systems, and services. Incumbent works together with the Chief Information Security Officer to develop security plans, user guidelines, and procedures; participates in infrastructure projects to ensure security and compliance requirements are met; helps direct the implementation and upgrade of existing security practices and systems; promotes awareness of security policies to the campus; assesses and helps to reduce ongoing system security threats and vulnerabilities; monitors system and application compliance with security guidelines and standards; participates in directing the performance of incident response activities. The incumbent is responsible for helping to develop IT security documentation and procedures, creating IT security and compliance matrices, campus communications, and IT security alerts.

 

Required Qualifications & Experience: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Business Administration, Computer Science, Business Systems, or related field, or equivalent years of experience working in the Information Technology field: network support; server support; systems analysis; systems architecture; database management; communication systems; application programming and information security support. IT project lead or supervisory/management experience in areas of budget administration; personnel administration (e.g., supervision, professional development, technical training, and performance evaluation); vendor/product evaluation, selection, and implementation; communications/network/e-mail services; strategic and tactical planning. Demonstrated experience and success in managing complex, long-term projects in IT and project management responsibilities for cross-division/department system implementations.  Working knowledge of: enterprise servers; network and communications equipment and related system security requirements; Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) and Intrusion Protection Systems (IPS), firewalls, network security policies, anti-virus, and anti-spam applications; disaster recovery and business continuity measures; Oracle or equivalent relational databases; data privacy standards, requirements, and policies; data and information; related security requirements, including campus, state, federal, and Homeland Security measures; and the change management process for systems and applications.  Knowledge of current state and federal laws and regulations regarding information security and information technology security. Possess solid constructive listening skills. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to: comprehend strategic plans and directions and integrate them into daily operations through information technology application implementations; comprehend institutional needs and requirements through the preparation of needs analysis and feasibility studies that reflect desired outcomes; and work with external vendors; coordinate multiple projects and tasks without the loss of integrity to work, as well as organizing, monitoring, and guiding others to ensure desired outcomes are achieved; act decisively under stressful situations. Incumbent must demonstrate an interest or ability in working in a multicultural/multiethnic environment. A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Desired Qualifications: Knowledge of PeopleSoft instances and student data security or equivalent ERP system, including knowledge of the process to gain access to the data or equivalent. Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) certification. Systems security certification. Network security certification

Compensation: Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications. Salary range is $5,053 - $16,221/monthly. (Budgeted Hiring Salary Range $5,053 - $10,700/Monthly) A comprehensive benefits package is provided.

 

Appointment: The Administrator II appointment will be made under the guidelines for management and supervisory employees of the California State University.  All rights and benefits associated with this appointment are governed by the Management Personnel Plan.
