Major Duties

Under general supervision, the Painter will perform journey-level painting tasks, preparing surfaces meticulously and applying finishes with precision. Responsibilities include maintenance, emergency repairs, and collaborating across trades, ensuring the work environment remains safe, clean, and compliant with established safety and building regulations.

  • Prepares surfaces for painting and finishing; applies undercoats and finish coats by brush, roller or spray machine.
  • Performs graffiti removal, sand blasting or water pressure cleaning.
  • Installs and repairs all types of floors including laminate, carpet and carpet tile, vinyl/linoleum tile, and cove base.
  • Inspects completed work for conformance with specifications and compliance with applicable building and safety codes.
  • Responds to emergency calls for repair and assures safety conditions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Any combination of progressively responsible training and experience which demonstrates achievement of journey-level skills equivalent to that acquired through completion of a standard painter’s apprenticeship program.

 

Preferred certifications and trainings:

  • Certified Building Operator, Level I and Level II; Arc Flash Electrical Safety, Welder Training Certificate; Rapid Facilities Assessment Team and Facility Services Training.

 

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Knowledge of the applicable state codes and regulations, including the Safety Orders of the Division of Industrial Safety of the State of California.
  • Precision in surface preparation and painting techniques. Ability to install and repair various flooring materials.
  • Competence in operating lifts, forklifts, and related machinery. Proficiency with record-keeping systems and reporting.
  • Capability to read, interpret, and utilize blueprints and specifications. Commitment to maintaining a safe and compliant work environment.

 

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

  • The university offers an excellent benefits package, including but not limited to: medical, dental, vision, retirement & savings, tuition waiver and more.
  • Classification: Painter / 6526 / grade 1
  • The anticipated HIRING RANGE: $5355 - $6400 per month, dependent upon qualifications and experience. The salary range for this classification is: $5355 - $7801 per month.
  • HOURS: Full Time; 40 hours per week; 7:00 am – 3:30 pm.; Monday through Friday.
  • This is a Regular position with a one-year probationary period.
