Job Summary
The purpose of this position is to deliver comprehensive athletic training services under the guidance of the Associate Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Health and Wellness. Working independently, this role is dedicated to providing exceptional medical care to both student-athletes and visiting athletic teams, focusing on the care, prevention, and rehabilitation of injuries with a commitment to inclusivity, respecting all individuals regardless of race, creed, color, national origin, sexual orientation, or gender. Emphasis is placed on injury prevention through methods such as taping, use of protective equipment, and flexibility training. Additionally, this position cultivates a professional clinical environment that actively supports Long Beach State students pursuing careers in athletic training. The role includes assisting with program development initiatives, providing mentorship, and ensuring continuity of leadership and operational standards, particularly when the Head Athletic Trainer is unavailable.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide a full range of athletic training services including assessment, treatment, and management of injuries for both student-athletes and visiting athletic teams.
- Cover home events and travel with assigned team(s). Plan and implement preventative and rehabilitation programs for athletes prior to or after injuries or post-surgical conditions.
- Perform administrative oversight and operations to support student-athlete health and wellness. Assist in athletic training program development, contribute to operational standards, and ensure continuity of leadership.
- Foster a professional clinical setting that supports Long Beach State students aspiring to careers in athletic training, providing guidance and practical training. Offer mentorship and leadership in the development of these students' skills and professional growth.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Computer skills: MS Office and injury tracking software. Knowledge of physical therapy modalities and treatment protocols to provide a standardized care for the student-athlete.
Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."
Education and Experience
- A bachelor’s degree in athletic training, physical education, kinesiology or a related field is required. A master's degree in athletic training or a related field preferred and two years of experience as a certified Athletic Trainer in a high school or college environment is required.
Physical Summary
Medium work - Job involves lifting heavy-weight objects (20-40 pounds) and/or 20% - 40% of the job involves standing, squatting, kneeling, or walking. May require pushing or pulling objects within the weight limits.
Licenses / Certificates
- Athletic training certification by the National Athletic Trainers Association – Board of Certification.
- Must possess and maintain BOC certification and certification in CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and first aid.
- Valid California driver’s license is required. Employees who are required to operate motorized vehicles and/or use their personal vehicle more than once a month on University business are required to take a mandatory Defensive Driving course and enroll in the DMV Employee Pull Notice (EPN) Program.

Compensation
CSU Classification Salary Range: The CSU Classification Salary Range for this position is $4,584 - $8,884 per month.
Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

Time Base
Full-time temporary position for one year with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.
