Position Summary
Under the general direction of the Director of Student Affairs IT & Communications, the incumbent will assess, formulate, and evaluate the impact of recommended or implemented marketing and communications practices from a strategic and operational perspective for the Division of Student Affairs. With more than 50 departments within Student Affairs, this position will work with various constituents to develop and implement original and engaging digital media campaigns with the goal of creating a vibrant co-curricular student experience and increased participation in on-campus events.
The position requires the incumbent to regularly participate in planning and development activities to achieve programmatic and administrative goals. The incumbent collaborates with community partners and the Sacramento State campus community to ensure timely and effective communication with the ever-changing student population. This position participates in developing and implementing university-level initiatives that support students in enhancing enrollment, engagement, retention, and degree completion.
Responsibilities include developing and implementing dynamic marketing and communications media assets consistent with the division’s goals and guidelines, leading assigned student assistants to expand and enhance the institution’s multimedia presence, and addressing a number of critical strategic initiatives and activities.
FLSA: Exempt (Not eligible for overtime. This position is eligible for full benefits.)
Anticipated Hiring Range: $4,146.00 per month - $4,507.00 per month

Minimum Qualifications
Entry to the first level within this classification requires knowledge of the fundamentals of public affairs and/or media relations and/or some exposure to marketing and marketing research. This background is normally obtained through a college degree, which includes relevant coursework in the field and up to two years of related professional or technical experience. In addition, strong written and verbal communication skills with a solid foundation in grammar, spelling, and the composition of various communication vehicles are essential to initial entry to this classification.
Required Qualifications
Education/Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in marketing, multimedia, and communications.
- Two years of experience with video production for marketing/communication campaigns.
- Experience with marketing/communication campaigns (including email, online, and social media campaigns).
- Experience using social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.).
- Experience and understanding of best practices in marketing and communications fields.
- Experience with specialized video/photo and audio editing software such as Adobe Photoshop, Premiere, Avid, Final Cut, Fiverr, Motion Array, Soundstripe, etc.
- Experience with digital and social media marketing strategies, including digital and emerging technologies (e.g., social media), to engage multiple audiences.
- Experience in project management and demonstrated problem-solving and organizational skills to effectively monitor and manage multiple/large-scale projects with overlapping deadlines and tasks.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Demonstrated ability to work independently to develop and implement communication and marketing projects/campaigns for large, complex organizations.
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally in writing and in person.
- Ability to interpret and evaluate results to develop sound conclusions and recommend new or revised Marketing and Communications strategies and policies.
- Ability to quickly and accurately modify communication plans in response to changing directives.
- Demonstrated the ability to utilize alternative media in communications campaigns (e.g., social media, video, chat, etc.).
- Ability to independently plan and coordinate marketing and communication/campaign events.
- Demonstrated writing and editing skills to use language effectively and creatively and apply style guidelines.
- Ability to coordinate meetings with university leadership, students, faculty, staff, and community members.
- Demonstrated consultative skills in working with internal and external constituent groups.
- Proficiency in using standard office programs and equipment such as PC/Mac, Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word), Microsoft Teams, Adobe Acrobat, and browsers (Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari).
- Knowledge of applicable copyrights and other laws about written materials, news media, and confidentiality.
- Ability to effectively present ideas and concepts in written or presentation format and use consultative and facilitation skills to gain consensus from multiple stakeholders and constituent groups.
- Familiarity with the latest trends, technologies, and methodologies in multimedia, production, data visualization, etc.
- Familiarity with campus programs and Student Affairs departments, processes, and procedures.
- Commitment to maintaining a welcoming and inclusive work environment with diverse colleagues and constituents including faculty, students, staff, and members of the community.
Work Schedule Requirements
- The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm, but it may vary, including occasional weekends and evenings, depending on department needs.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to frequently move photography equipment up to 25 lbs.

Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree or other certification related to public relations, marketing, communications, etc.
- Familiarity with CSU policies and procedures regarding branding, marketing/public relations.
- Familiarity with CSU campus programs and Student Affairs departments, student services, processes, and procedures.
