Position Description

Job Overview

Under the leadership of the Director, Student Leadership & Involvement Center (SLIC), the Assistant Director is responsible for the developing and delivering student services and programs that enrich the educational experience-particularly within Fraternity & Sorority Life (FSL). This role serves as the primary campus liaison for all stakeholders involved FSL, providing strategic guidance and programmatic support to recognized fraternities and sororities. 

The Assistant Director ensures that the direction and development of the FSL community aligns with the mission of the university, division, and department, as well as the Pillars of Fraternity & Sorority Life. This position plays a key role in enhancing the unique identity of the FSL community at CSUSM.

Key responsibilities include serving as the primary advisor to the Greek Leadership Council (GLC), Interfraternity Council (IFC), Multicultural Greek Council (MGC), National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC), Panhellenic Council (PC), as well as Greek Ancillary Organizations. The Assistant Director works closely with chapter and council leaders to design and implement programming that strengthens the fraternal experience and promotes a positive image of CSUSM.

This role requires independent judgment in managing complex and sensitive matters related to student conduct, policy compliance, and crisis response within the FSL community. The Assistant Director leads initiatives based on campus assessments and student feedback to increase student engagement in leadership opportunities and campus life.

The Assistant Director will conduct continuous program assessment and improvement research, benchmarking, and analysis of student trends. This position provides leadership and advisement during fraternity/sorority expansion and extension processes. The role supports broader SLIC initiatives and contributes to the center’s strategic growth and development through collaboration and innovation.

Position Summary

Assistant Director of Fraternity & Sorority Life (Student Services Professional III)

This is a full-time, exempt position, which will lead toward permanent status following the successful completion of a probationary period.

In this role, you’ll work with 18 recognized organizations and five governing councils to develop leadership, foster inclusion, and create meaningful student engagement opportunities. Collaborate with students, advisors, faculty, and national partners to strengthen programs, expand opportunities, and elevate the fraternity and sorority experience.

Pay, Benefits, and Work Schedule

Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $5,540 - $6,250 per month

CSU Classification Salary Range: $5,540 - $7,893 per month

Salary is commensurate with the background and experience of the individual selected.

This position is eligible for a broad range of benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurances, retirement (CalPERS), tuition waiver, vacation and sick leave. In addition, 15 paid holidays are offered each year; 14 scheduled on specific days and a Personal Holiday that may be taken any time during the year.

This position is required to work in person on campus.
