Major Duties
Under the general supervision of the Chief Medical Officer, the Phlebotomist/Clinical Lab Assistant supports overall laboratory operations and performs phlebotomy on patients at the Student Health Center. The incumbent performs phlebotomy (venipuncture) and skin puncture for blood drawing and coordinates patient flow in the Lab/X-ray Reception area.
- Logs in and processes laboratory requests from providers using Point and Click and Orchard, monitors interface functions at the request level, and instructs patients on costs and collection requirements for laboratory tests.
- Collects required specimens submitted by providers, prepares laboratory specimens for testing or to send to the reference laboratory, and verifies billing to authorize payment to reference laboratories.
- Compiles a problem List with Lab orders and Specimen Collection, and monitors pending results in the Laboratory Interface System (LIS) and troubleshoots.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent and six to twelve months of related experience in a healthcare setting or equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities.
- Possess and maintain valid certification as a Certified Phlebotomy Technician I, as defined by the California Department of Health Services, which permits the incumbent to perform skin punctures and venipuncture.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- General knowledge of: clinical laboratory operations and equipment, including an understanding of, or the ability to quickly learn, laboratory safety and quality assurance practices and procedures; medical terminology pertinent to laboratory operations; applicable laws and regulations pertaining to clinical laboratory operations and patient confidentiality.
- Ability to: collect required specimens for with required attention to accuracy and detail; perform phlebotomy using the appropriate equipment including venipuncture and capillary puncture; use applicable automated systems for maintaining and tracking laboratory and patient records; maintain patient confidentiality as required by applicable state and federal laws and regulations; maintain effective working relationships with practitioners and other health center support staff; and be sensitive to and communicate effectively with diverse patients.
Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

- The anticipated HIRING RANGE: $3680 - $3800 per month, dependent upon qualifications and experience. The salary range for this classification is: $3680 - $6097 per month.
- HOURS: Full Time; 40 hours per week; Monday through Friday.
- This is a Temporary position; end date to be determined.
- The individual hired for this role will physically work on-campus in Northridge. This is not a telecommute position.
