Job/Department Summary:

Under the general direction of the Director of University Public Engagement (UPE), the Director of Chico Performances and the North State Symphony manages two public-facing arts organizations as auxiliary enterprise projects operating within Chico State Enterprises (CSE). The two projects have some similar and overlapping functions, but each project is also unique. This role requires a dynamic leader with expertise in arts and nonprofit management, strong leadership abilities, and the capacity to handle multiple tasks efficiently while adapting to changing needs. As a key member of the UPE leadership team, the Director will also contribute to the department’s broader mission, including supporting other UPE events and initiatives as needed throughout the year.

Required Education and Experience:

Requires a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution with a preference towards degrees in arts administration, event or venue management, non-profit or public administration, or a related field.
AND
Proven leadership, management and administrative experience, with a minimum of two years of progressive responsibility in performing arts administration and or venue management, and demonstrated experience supervising and nurturing staff.

Preference may be given to applicants with the following as they may be considered specialized skills: 

• Bilingual
• Masters Degree
• Experience working for institutes of higher education in an arts presenting or arts management role
• Other related experience in non-profit or arts organization management

Time Base: Full-time

Pay Plan: 12/12

Work Schedule: Mon-Fri 8:00am-5:00pm, Summer: Mon-Thurs 7:00am-5:30pm. 

CSU Classification Salary Range:  $47,256 - $140,436 per year.  (Admin I)

Anticipated Hiring Range:  $80,000 - $85,000 per year.  Salary commensurate with education and experience of the individual selected.

The person holding this position is considered a “Limited Mandated Reporter” under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 (revised July 21, 2017) as a condition of employment.

This position is a Higher Education Employer-Employee Relations Act (HEERA) designated managerial position and comes under the Management Personnel Plan (MPP) of the California State University. Individuals appointed to management positions serve at the pleasure of the President or designee. They are excluded from the collective bargaining process, are not subject to probationary service, and do not receive tenure or permanent status. This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

This position requires a flexible work schedule, including evenings and weekends with occasional travel.
