Compensation and Benefits

The Anticipated Hiring Salary is $285,000 - $325,000 per year and is competitive and negotiable depending on the strength of qualifications. This is a CSU Management Personnel Plan (MPP) position.

The CSU system provides a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision plans, membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), sick and vacation time, and 15 paid holidays a year. Job Summary

California State University, Fresno (Fresno State), one of 23 campuses within the California State University system, seeks a dynamic, decisive, and creative leader to serve as its Vice President for Administration and Chief Financial Officer (VPA/CFO). Reporting to the President, serving on the President’s Cabinet, and working in collaboration with senior leadership, faculty, students, staff, and community members, the VPA/CFO oversees a broad and diverse portfolio and will be a key leader for Fresno State, firmly and genuinely committed to the University’s long-term success.
 
The next VPA/CFO will serve as a firm advocate for the University, building on its historic success, leveraging institutional assets, and deftly representing the University’s interests on a local, regional, and national scale. In doing so, the VPA/CFO will be instrumental in efforts to address the following opportunities and challenges:
  • Provide exemplary counsel to the President and University Cabinet in support of Fresno State’s strategic plan;
  • Transparently communicate information and decisions to the Fresno State community at all levels;
  • Lead, develop, and support the talented administrators and staff across the Division of Administration and Finance;
  • Enhance human resources, administrative operations, and support services to ensure compliance and drive efficiencies;
  • Serve as a committed and visible external leader, effectively representing and advocating for Fresno State within the CSU system, across the Central Valley and beyond

Key Qualifications

  • Knowledge of California’s educational systems, including the California State University;
  • Master planning and capital budgeting experience and knowledge of real estate land use development;
  • Knowledge of higher education current issues and challenges;
  • Knowledge of academic affairs budgetary uniqueness and needs as different from other divisions;
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to manage the business affairs of a highly complex organization;
  • Knowledge of Microsoft software suite, including Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Strong interpersonal skills;
  • Exceptional organization administrative skills;
  • Ability to write clear and concise reports;
  • Ability to read, understand, and utilize large amounts of information;
  • Flexibility to adjust to competing priorities in work schedule;
  • Ability to represent the University as required;
  • Ability to promote collaboration across divisions;
  • Ability to participate in consultative processes with faculty and students;

Education and Experience

  • Undergraduate degree from a regionally accredited college or university;
  • Minimum of ten years of experience in administrative services with five years at a senior level position;
  • Demonstrated financial acumen with a knowledge of fiscal operation and principles;
  • Facilities management experience; track record in addressing deferred maintenance and new construction needs.
    • Preferred Qualifications:
      • Master’s degree in business administration or comparable graduate degree;
      • Experience with environmental impact reports and knowledge of CEQA strongly preferred;
      • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Fresno State’s Strategic Plan and Student Success initiatives;
      • Experience working with a diverse and multicultural population and performing community services.
