Major Duties
Under general supervision, the Carpenter performs skilled journey-level carpentry work in the maintenance and renovation of buildings and structures. The incumbent erects, maintains, and repairs various types of buildings and other structures and works on project work in coordination with other trades
- Erects steel and wood wall/ceiling framing; installs and repairs drywall, ceiling tiles, and roofs; and builds and repairs pedestrian ramps and culverts.
- Makes cabinets, lockers, shelves, doors and window frames; and maintains tools and equipment in good condition.
- Reads rough sketches and consults with the Lead Carpenter on estimates of the cost of new structures and repair work.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
- Any combination of progressively responsible training and experience that demonstrates achievement of journey-level skills equivalent to that acquired through the completion of a carpenter's apprenticeship program.
- LICENSE: CANDIDATE MUST POSSESS A VALID CALIFORNIA DRIVER'S LICENSE
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Thorough knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in both rough and finished carpentry; various types and grades of lumber; hand and power carpentry tools; and applicable state safety codes and regulations pertaining to the carpentry trade, including the Safety Orders of the Division of Industrial Safety for the State of California and California State Building Codes.
- Knowledge and familiarity with all types of lumber, steel studs, fasteners, hand and power tools, laser levels, cement mixers, and concrete saws. Working knowledge of PC Computer for various types of documentation.
- Ability to build, install, and repair structural woodwork, flooring, ceilings, and cabinetry; operate and maintain hand and power carpentry tools; read, interpret, and work from blueprints, plans, drawings, and specifications; recognize and select appropriate lumber types, and grades; make rough sketches; estimate the cost, time and materials of carpentry projects.
- Ability to operate vehicles such as truck fork-lifts, carts, and man lifts; maintain records and retrieve data related to work performed using manual and/or computerized record-keeping systems; prepare standard reports; provide instruction to unskilled and semi-skilled assistants; analyze and respond appropriately to emergencies; read and write at a level appropriate to the position; and perform arithmetic calculations as required by the position.
Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

- Classification: Carpenter / 6476 / 1
- The anticipated HIRING RANGE: $5355 - $6658 per month, dependent upon qualifications and experience. The salary range for this classification is: $5355 - $7801 per month.
- HOURS: Full Time; 40 hours per week; Monday through Friday; 7:00 am – 3:30 pm.
- This is a Regular position with a one-year probationary period.
- The individual hired for this role will physically work on-campus in Northridge. This is not a telecommute position.
