      Half-time (20 hours a week) position available on or after May 1, 2023 for College of the Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences.

      Under the general supervision of the Associate Dean of the College of the Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, and lead direction of the Writing Center Director, this position will provide a full range of moderate to complex clerical work assignments involving the use of judgment and discretion in support of the Writing Center. The incumbent will work in a busy department comprised of 4 faculty members, 8-10 teaching associates and 30-50 tutors. The person in this position must be able to engage in positive interactions with a highly diverse population in support of the Writing Center mission. In addition, the individual must be capable of independently performing administrative and clerical duties at the highest level of quality within the context of multiple priorities across various writing support programs with highly-visible results.

    • Job Duties
    • Duties include but are not limited to:
      • Communicate with students, tutors, faculty, and staff in ways that value their varied identities, abilities, and linguistic backgrounds and that promote inclusivity, anti-racism, and accessibility.
      • Coordinate requested workshops/presentations with director, coordinators, Teaching Associates (TA), Instructional Student Assistants (ISA), and faculty
      • Maintain Writing Center master calendar, schedule workshops, meeting and activities. Provide support as required for events such as notifying participants, preparing presentation materials, arranging catering services, reserving rooms and/or AV equipment taking and preparing minutes.
      • Manage and organize electronic and paper files and oversee archival process
      • Maintain accuracy of the Writing Center website.
      • Oversee student assistants’ social media posts and create posts as needed - Draft, proofread and/or edit documents, such as proposals, requests for funding, and correspondence.
      • Organize and compile program related documentation, assessment results, student promotional material, etc.
      • Perform a variety of tasks involving associated writing support programs as assigned by the WC Director.
      • Initiate surveys and feedback forms using Qualtrics and other survey applications
      • Run reports on Writing Center usage and create visual representations of data (charts & tables)
      • Assist with requesting, gathering, entering, and maintaining the Writing Center’s ISAs and TAs schedules, courses and requests for time off in StanTutor in the absence of the Learning Commons ASC.
      • Communicate via email or phone to tutors, students, faculty, and campus personnel; conduct errands around campus, request services or technical support as needed; respond to emails and messages
      • Coordinate with Learning Commons staff as needed on issues of software updates and changes, space issues, shared operations across the centers in the Learning Commons.
      • Initiate revision and/or creation of Writing Center ISA and TA job descriptions to be finalized by the WC Director.
      • Initiate and oversee the hiring process for faculty and teaching associates each semester such as Request for Assigned Time forms, Request to Hire Paperwork, etc.
      • Use the following software including, but not limited to: StanTutor, Peoplesoft, Office 365, such as Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
      • Other duties as assigned.

    • Minimum Qualifications
    • Education: Education: Completion of a high school program, technical/vocational program, or their equivalents.

      Experience: Several years of related office work experience.

    • Preferred Qualifications

      • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with diverse populations
      • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
      • Previous related administrative support experience in an academic department preferred,
      • Demonstrated experience in developing and maintaining a website,
      • Demonstrated ability to plan and organize events, preferred.
      • Demonstrated ability to consistently maintain confidentiality, highly desirable.
      • Experience using social media platforms.
      • Demonstrated experience with StanTutor, Peoplesoft, Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook.
      • Excellent organizational skills with high attention to detail.

    • Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

      • Experience to be fully functional in all technical aspects of work assignments.
      • Ability to understand and operate in a variety of organizational structures.
      • Thorough, detailed knowledge of applicable university infrastructure, policies, and procedures.
      • Thorough knowledge of English grammar, punctuation, and spelling. Ability to clearly communicate orally and in writing.
      • Ability to use and quickly learn new office support technology systems and software packages.
      • Thorough knowledge of office systems and ability to use a broader range of technology, systems, and packages.
      • Ability to independently handle multiple work unit priorities and projects.
      • Ability to apply independently a wide variety of policies and procedures where specific guidelines may not exist.
      • Working knowledge of budget policies and procedures.
      • Ability to perform standard business math, such as calculate ratios and percentages, track financial data, and make simple projections.
      • Ability to draft and compose correspondence and standard reports.
      • Ability to handle effectively a broader range of interpersonal contacts, including those at a higher level and those sensitive in nature.

    • Salary Range
    • Anticipated salary will be $1,752.50 – $1,928 per month plus excellent paid benefits. Salary will depend on the qualifications of the successful finalist. (Full half-time ASC II range: $1,752.50 - $2,754 per month)
