      Full-time temporary position available on or after July 1, 2021 and ending on or before July 29, 2022 in the Academic Success Center. Appointment will be made for one year from date of hire with the possibility of reappointment and/or becoming permanent based on budget, department needs, and job performance.


      Under the leadership of the Director or the EOP Coordinator, the EOP Academic Advisor provides general academic advising on an individual or small group basis to students. The advisor will communicate and solve problems with all members of the campus community concerning the academic development of students.

    • Job Duties
    • Duties include but are not limited to:
      • Provide academic advising, course selection and registration assistance on an individual or small group basis to new and continuing students.
      • Help students select appropriate educational goals, and implement corrective measures to alleviate any deficiencies.
      • Conduct in-depth analysis of student skills, abilities and previous academic performance as part of program planning and pre-registration advising for new and continuing students.
      • Provide comprehensive advisement to assist students to identify their academic problems, evaluate them realistically, deal with their aptitudes and abilities as related to their particular needs and circumstances, assist students to select appropriate education/career goals, and implement corrective measure to alleviate any deficiencies.
      • Participate in and/or develop and present workshops to students on relevant success and resource topics determined by direct work lead or ASC Director.
      • Responsible for assisting a large volume of students providing daily drop-in advising, resources and just-in-time support.
      • Provide presentations at New Student Orientation and assist in NSO advising sessions as assigned.
      • Maintain current knowledge of resources, majors, prerequisites, general education and graduation requirements, University procedures, rules and regulation along with other student services.
      • Maintain detailed and current records on assigned student population.
      • Ensure the up-to-date maintenance of required documentation, web-based resources, reports and student records in accordance with university policies, government regulations and accreditation standards.
      • Assist and participate in the formulation and implementation of organizational goals and objectives.
      • Participate in regular department and component meetings.
      • Represent the university and ASC at specified regional professional association conferences and professional development workshops.
      • Serve on Department, Division and campus-wide committees as the ASC representative.
      • Perform other duties as assigned by the director to ensure the success of ASC on behalf of the university, students, employers and alumni.
    • Minimum Qualifications
    • Education:  Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job‑related field. (Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities may be substituted for the required education on a year‑for‑year basis.)

      Experience:  Equivalent of two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field; experience should give evidence of competence and indicate the potential for further growth. (A master’s degree in a job‑related field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience.)

    • Preferred Qualifications

      • Earned Master’s degree or post-baccalaureate units.
      • Demonstrated direct and comprehensive experience advising students in higher education.
      • Experience in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships.
      • Strong verbal, writing, proof reading, editing and communications skills.
      • Ability to prioritize work, multi-task, set and meet deadlines.
    • Required Qualifications

      • Working knowledge of the practices, procedures and activities of the program to which assigned (academic advising).
      • General knowledge of the methods and problems of organizational and program management.
      • General knowledge of research and interview techniques; and of the principles of individual and group behavior.
      • Ability to interpret and apply program rules and regulations.
      • Ability to use initiative and resourcefulness in planning work assignments and in implementing long range program improvements.
      • Ability to obtain factual and interpretative information through interviews.
      • Ability to reason logically; ability to collect, compile, analyze and evaluate data and make verbal or written presentations based on these data.
      • Ability to advise students individually and in groups on routine student-related matters where required.
      • Ability to recognize multicultural, multi-sexed and multi-aged value systems and work accordingly.
      • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, CSU administrators, student organizations, private and public agencies and others in committee work, and student advising and community contacts.
      • Ability to rapidly acquire a general knowledge of the overall operation, functions and programs of the campus to which assigned.
      • Demonstrated ability to make decisions and carry through actions having implications with regard to other program or service areas.
    • Physical Requirements
    • The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
      • Likely to be seated for long periods of time and spend a good portion of work time using a computer.
      • May be required to travel across campus to other offices or buildings on and off the main campus.
      • Occasionally may need to lift approximately 10-25 pounds.
    • Salary Range
    • $4,304 - $6,120 per month plus excellent paid benefits.  (Anticipated salary will be $4,304 – $4,950 per month, depending on the qualifications of the successful finalist.)
