    • Position Summary
    • Full-time position available on or after May 13, 2021 in Print Shop.

      Under the general direction of the Director of Support Services, the Reprographics/Print Shop Lead coordinates and provides leadership for the University Print Shop, Stan Prints, Copy Program and Retail Parking Permit Program. This position evaluates and implements business efficiencies into operational procedures and policies with a strategic and mission centric approach; and is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the unit. Work requires participation in planning and program development activities and independent determination of methods to meet programmatic and administrative goals. Incumbent will be expected to provide training and lead work guidance to other print shop staff, temporary workers and students, and/or performing the most complex functions within reprographics. The incumbent is involved in supporting the Print Shop’s administrative functions, including budget and business planning activities.

    • Job Duties
    • Duties include but are not limited to:
      • Manage the day to day operations of the Reprographics Department.
      • Manage the Copy Program and Print Shop’s copier maintenance contracts including working with service providers to obtain the best rates.
      • Oversee monthly meter readings of Copy Program equipment located throughout campus, preparing recharge information to Financial Services and maintaining records pertaining to revenue.
      • Manage the Stores Program for the campus including accounting, ordering and inventory.
      • Complete jobs on various copiers, printers and off-set presses using the appropriate software and equipment operation.
      • Develop and maintain positive and collaborative work relations with the diverse university population including assisting customers to determine faster and better quality products and processes.
      • Oversee preparation of bulk mailings in conjunction with Mail Services including running NCOA address checking software, preparing variable data for printing, folding, inserting along with general knowledge of USPS regulations.
      • Oversee preparation and development of Parking Permit Program in conjunction with Public Safety.
      • Prepare bids from campus departments requesting printing and adhere to University and CSU Procurement guidelines and policies.
      • Work with supervisor to develop and maintain department administrative procedures including job estimating, pricing, billing, business plans, and budget.
      • Provide leadership to establish and maintain effective working relationships within and outside the print shop.
      • Lead the daily activities of staff to assure that work is being handled in an efficient manner according to department policies and standards. Resolve work flow and work load issues. Schedule student assistant work hours. Train staff and student assistants on the proper use and maintenance of equipment.
      • Train department staff and student assistants to use the Printers Plan and Print Shop Pro Manager programs and complete data entry for maintaining complete and accurate work orders and equipment/inventory management.
      • Provide input in the written annual performance evaluations of employees and student assistants including developing goals.
      • Maintaining inventory supplies necessary for all programs.
      • Maintain the Printers Plan and Print Shop Pro Manager databases.
      • Prepare order requests and requisitions for supplies and equipment maintenance.
      • Work with supervisor on an on-going basis to research business expansion opportunities and develop business plans for revenue enhancement and cost containment.
      • Provide monthly reports of department statistics and other reports as required.
      • Provide university departments with training as needed.
      • Provide training, instruction and direction to graphic design interns.
      • Provide graphic design services for jobs as needed.
      • Manage the print shop website and coordinate the ordering of software.
      • Serve as webmaster for Support Services. Provide web update assistance to departments within Financial Services.
      • Other duties as assigned.
    • Minimum Qualifications
    • Education: High school diploma or equivalent

      Experience: Minimum of four years experience with operating digital press and reprographic equipment in a print shop environment

    • Preferred Qualifications

      • Experience within the California State University system, knowledge of Printing Policies.
      • Graphic design experience.
      • Ability to develop creative and innovative business ideas.
      • Ability to lead employees in a manner that establishes an efficient and positive work environment.
      • Demonstrated ability to interpret policies and procedures for campus wide implementation.
      • Ability to understand CSU policies and executive orders.
    • Required Qualifications

      • Possess specialized skills as well as an advanced knowledge of reprographics operations, processes and systems.
      • Fluency in all applicable PC and Macintosh platforms, their operating systems and applicable software packages.
      • Advanced knowledge of the operation, adjustment and routine maintenance of mechanical, digital and computerized equipment and systems.
      • Thorough knowledge of desktop publishing and graphic software and the ability to manipulate and translate media, as well as process electronic files using pre-press software. Complete knowledge of campus graphics standards and procedures.
      • Advanced communication, problem-solving, and customer service skills including the ability to advise customers on print needs and effectively work with designers to find creative solutions to provide products that satisfy requirements established by the customer and designer.
      • Advanced organizational and problem-solving skills to coordinate work production including determining priorities and allocating jobs. Thorough knowledge of workflow including the ability to set job scheduling and meet customer deadlines. Ability to effectively manage priorities in a fast-paced and changing environment.
      • Thorough knowledge of lead work direction including assisting in employee selection and hiring, training employees in work procedures, prioritizing and assigning work and organizing work flow, reviewing work and providing input to performance evaluations, and promoting team work. Thorough knowledge of campus human resource practices and payroll procedures.
      • Thorough knowledge of department administrative procedures including job estimating, pricing and billing, reprographics budget procedures and related administrative functions. Demonstrated ability to work within reprographics budgetary constraints. May assist in shop business planning and budget development, as well as working on equipment and material purchase and maintenance agreements.
      • Ability to manipulate and set up files and equipment in the production of a wide range of specialized material and media such as but not limited to CD. DVD, posters, banners, magnets, signs, and fabric printing.
      • Requires a thorough knowledge of lithography and reprographics systems and operations.
      • Ability to set up and operate high speed copiers (black & white and color), digital presses and/or multi-color offset presses to product high quality work.
      • Thorough knowledge of mixing and matching ink, manipulating color values and ensuring even density on the sheet and consistent color throughout the job using applicable equipment.
      • Thorough knowledge of applicable U.S. Postal Service requirements and processes related to standard and automated mailing processes and other shipping and receiving methods.
    • License or Certifications

      • Must posses a valid California Drivers License
    • Physical Requirements

      • Sitting at a computer.
      • Standing for long periods of time to operate different types of equipment.
      • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds.
      • Extensive walking.
      • Ability to use hand trucks and a pallet jack.
      • Required to drive a vehicle.
    • Salary Range
    • $3,434 - $6,112 per month plus excellent paid benefits.  (Anticipated salary will be $3,434 – $4,120 per month, depending on the qualifications of the successful finalist.)
