Assistant Director of New Student and Family Programs San José
Reporting to the Director of New Student and Family Programs, the Assistant Director coordinates the mandatory SJSU new student orientation program for incoming frosh and transfer students, and supports Parent & Family Orientation. The incumbent is responsible for campus policy and procedure articulation and easily navigated, student-learning focused transition from acceptance through matriculation. Guided by the CAS standards, the incumbent supports the transition process as it relates to yield programs including Admitted Spartan Day, Fall Preview Days, and off-site yield events.

The University Police Department (UPD) is responsible for enforcement of all laws, apprehension of violators, maintenance of order, preservation of human life, protection, and safety services to the SF State community. UPD is dedicated to the university’s strategic plan, committed to staff development, and promoting new innovative ideas while continuing to incorporate community-oriented policing and problem-solving strategies. Under the direction of a Police Sergeant, the incumbent is expected to perform law enforcement duties including: foot, bicycle and/or vehicle patrol of SF State campus, residential properties and surrounding community; investigate and prepare preliminary investigation reports; issue citations; make arrests; assist in the prosecution of violators of law; provide crime prevention information; and serve as a proactive resource to a uniquely diverse community. The incumbent may also work as part of a security detail with civilian and other law enforcement agencies at university and special events. The incumbent has the opportunity to participate in a number of special assignments such as bicycle patrol, various training instructor positions, detective work, background investigations, crime prevention, field training officer, motors and various lead officer positions.

Under the direction of the Grounds Operations Manager, the Lead Groundsworker provides working supervision to grounds staff for the performance of general gardening, grounds maintenance, utility services and landscape installation for the Housing facilities. Academic Advising Trainee - 4 Positions (Temporary) East Bay
This Academic Advising position is a trainee position under the Student Services Professional (SSP) IA classification, an entry-level classification in the SSP series. This position will serve in a trainee capacity that is not to exceed 12 months. Upon successful completion of training and satisfactory performance under the SSP IA classification, this position may, at the discretion of the appropriate administrator and based on university needs, evolve to the next classification level – SSP IB and be expected to perform similar duties with greater independence and under more limited supervision. Permanent status cannot be earned in a trainee position. This Student Services Professional IA trainee position is a temporary, grant-funded, full-time position with the possibility of reappointment for a maximum of one year from the date of hire.
